Looking forward to a fabulous weekend as we welcome.....

GUEST MUSICIANS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD..........

Friday, February 24 Austin "Walkin' Cane" Blues 7:30 - 10:30pm

Saturday, February 25 - The Hollywood Slim Band - 7:30 - 10:30pm

What's Happening In The Vineyards Of Harpersfield? Not much really. The vines are dormant - but the vineyard work of 2012 is just beginning. Team Harpersfield has begun the labor intensive task of vineyard pruning. Pruning is done when the vines are dormant (now). Why do we prune? Pruning is an absolute must for the integrity of the vine. The vineyard crew essentially clips away certain canes to control growth and to allow for selective bud positioning. This in turn lowers fruit yields, excessive vegitation and the possibility of disease. Fabulous wine is NEVER an accident.

We were inundated with questions concerning the Harvest of 2011. Was it good? Was it awful? What about the rain? This years harvest was certainly a nail-biter - rain, rain and more rain. Aren't the challenges the very things that makes growing grapes in Ohio such a seductive endeavor? The risks of 2011? Possibly a year's worth of work put into a crop ravaged by rain. The rewards? Tackling the forces that be to produce the best wines we can from what we are given. Here at Harpersfield we are survivors. Many times the most adverse growing season can produce some of the most equisite wines - that is what we intend to do.

!

WINTER HOURS.........

We have morphed into the fall hours

Monday & Tuesday - closed

Wednesday - Noon to 8pm

Thursday - Noon to 8pm

Friday & Saturday - Noon to 11 pm

Sunday - Noon to 6pm - This is really the big change, we close a bit earlier on Sunday. We tried to dabble in time changes for Wednesday and Thursdays - but this was met with vocal resistance from the after work crowd! Ouch!

A gentle reminder - We don't care if you smoke - just PLEASE find an ashtray!!!! We do have them!

CELLAR NEWS....

Well, it just happens - we are sold out of a few things! Being an estate winery has certain limitations. One of those being - when it's gone it's gone! No, we don't have any bottles "hidden in the back". Of course, the good news is we will begin bottling a few things from the 2011 harvest at some point in March 2012. All of your favorites will be back with a vengeance! Harpersfield being Harpersfield - there will also be a few surprises to flow out of the cellar. The harvest of 2011 was a challenge - to say the least - but we managed to pull it off and you can expect wonderful wines to appear in 2012.

The new release of Musette Red is quicklky becoming a guest favorite! Musette Red is a blend of estate grown fruit - Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc and Chambourcin. A delightful red blend - hitting all of the right notes! A rich red perfect to consume in the chilly months of winter.

Terrier Update - January 4, 2012

The kids are alright! The feeding of the terriers has pretty much come to a screaching halt. Matilda has actually dropped a bit over a pound and is now a much more healthy weight. If that urge overcomes to drop them a tidbit - stop and ask - "Is this a good thing?" A fat terrier is an unhealthy terrier!

There are always questions about the collars on the kids - those are NOT shock collars for behavior modification - those collars are for the electric fence that runs behind the tasting room - the kids can only go so far.........

Let's all use our party manners - we really don't care if you enjoy the company of your furry friend in the outside seating areas - plase DO NOT bring your friend into the tasting room.

Where are the terriers? On Friday and Saturday evenings the kids go home! Too much confusion for them......

Please don't feed the terriers! We understand that can be a dificult thing NOT to do but a fat terrier is an unhealthy terrier. Matilda just had her healthy doggie check up and seemed to have gained 2.5 pounds! That adds up tp a whole lot of cheese chunks! Healthy dogs live a longer fuller life and we need Matilda and Toby to make us happy for a very long time.

Here at Harpersfield, guests frequently ask questions about our furry friends. We have two Jack Russell Terriers that may or may not greet you as you arrive. (they are terriers - something else may have their attention) Toby (the white with brown markings) is soon to three. He appears to be the more intelligent of the two. He is a very serious little man. Matilda (the fuzzy one!) turned two in November. Matilda is just a silly little bundle of energy! We were given Matilda by winery guests that had Jack Russell pups. The kids come to the winery with us everyday and enjoy the interaction and attention. We have recently started to take them home on Friday and Saturday evenings - to many people for them! They seem to get some sort of performance anxiety! We do ask that you do not feed them. There is nothing more unattractive than half-digested pizza crust and wads of cheese being regurgitated on the end of my bed. We love them dearly and their health is very important to us.
